Cleaning out files this past week I discovered treasures from years past. My hands touched notes and paperwork accumulated over many years. I love quotes. An aged piece of paper was carefully unfolded, then read. It was sent to me by my mother many years ago. She loved historical stories of an inspiring nature. The story is below… Enjoy.
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while farming in the fields he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby swamp. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired up to his waist in the thick black muck was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and agonizing death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to Farmer Fleming’s humble shack of a home and sparce surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. “I want to repay you for saving my son’s life” said the nobleman.
“No, I cannot accept payment for what I did. It was what I needed to do” said the Scottish farmer waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer’s own son came to the door of the family hovel.
“Is that your son?” the nobleman asked. “Yes,” the farmer replied proudly.
“I’ll make you a deal. Let me take your son and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he will grow into a man that you can be proud of.” And that is what happed. In time, Farmer Fleming’s son graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.
Years later, the nobleman’s son was stricken with pneumonia. What save his son’s life? Penicillin. The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. What was his son’s name who was healed by the penicillin? SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL.
Years pass… days pass and we wonder if our life efforts make any difference.
Are we doing anything worthwhile?
Is what we are doing of lasting value?

What you are doing DOES count. It DOES matter. Your investments have eternal value. You are leaving fingerprints on the lives of others.
Keep going. Keep investing. What you are giving out… WILL RETURN.
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
And remember….
I’m Listening.
