The Slow Pace

Kosuke Koyama, a Japanese theologian of the last century recorded these words of wisdom about God’s pace in today’s world and WHY God has a slow pace.

“God walks “slowly” because He is love. If He is not love, He would have a much faster pace. Love has its speed. It is an inner speed. It is a spiritual speed. It is a different kind of speed from the technological speed to which we are daily accustomed. It is “slow” yet it is lord over ALL the other speed since it is the speed of love. It goes on in the depth of our life, whether we notice it or not. Whether we are currently hit by a storm or not. It goes at three miles an hour. It is a speed we walk and therefore it is the speed the love of God walks.”

Hurry up and love someone…just doesn’t work. Hurry up and get well… just does not work. Jesus is slow. It is in the silence of the slow pace that Jesus whispers to our soul.

Embrace the slow speed. Accept the slow pace. Flowers bloom in the valley of quiet rest. And you will find you again… in the peace of a slow pace.
